Bowen Technique
Developed in Australia in the 1950’s by Tom Bowen, the Bowen Technique is fast being recognised by professionals in both the Complementary and Medical fields as a powerful and effective therapy for balancing the body, aiding postural realignment and releasing muscle tension. It is a gentle, non-invasive therapy, which does not involve any manipulation of joints.
Quotes:
“The Bowen Technique is a method which has achieved good results with musculoskeletal conditions…. what is clear is that it really works.”
Susan Clarke, Author of ‘What Really Works’ & Health Columnist for Grazia Magazine
“A straight-forward, no-nonsense remedial therapy that is non-intrusive,
gentle and very effective." Jane Alexander, Health Writer for The Daily Mail
Gentle cross fibre moves are made at specific points on the body over muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Via the nervous system these moves trigger the mind to focus on problem areas thereby initiating adjustments and self-healing. Short wait times are incorporated between certain moves to allow the therapy to activate healing.
The practitioner can focus on specific areas such as shoulders, knees, spine, pelvis, jaw, digestive and respiratory etc. Certain moves can also be instrumental in aiding lymphatic drainage and initiating detoxification. It is normal for a deep sense of relaxation to be experienced both during and after the session.
Because of the nature of the therapy, which can be tailored to each person’s sensitivity, Bowen is suitable for the newborn through to the elderly. It can be used during and after pregnancy to address common associated ailments. Equally it is suitable for both acute and chronic conditions and can be performed in the seated position for those unable to lie on a therapy table. There are numerous conditions which respond well to Bowen plus it can also be turned to for general body balancing, to address low energy or alleviate stress.
If required, repeat sessions should ideally be within 5 to 10 days to reinforce benefits derived from the previous session. As the body continues to heal and respond to Bowen for several days, it is recommended that the client avoid other hands on therapies for 5 days before or after the Bowen session.
